We read a great article this week by Joshua Benton at NiemanLab about the importance of native advertising in today's media landscape. To quote:
Why is native advertising so appealing to publishers? Let’s start with the obvious: money. You may have heard that a lot of news companies are in need of it. Native attracts significantly higher rates than most other forms of digital advertising; The Guardian announced its Unilever “partnership” as a seven-figure deal. (Estimating the size of the native ad market is complicated by the fact few agree on what the boundaries of “native” really are. BIA/Kelsey predicts it’ll be a $4.6 billion market by 2017.) Publishers also love native advertising because it plays to their strengths. Before the web, a newspaper could sell businesses on an amorphous idea of its “audience” and the idea that putting ads near stories would somehow, fuzzily, equal impact. And even today, most news organizations have only the broadest idea of what makes one online reader different from another. It seems like native advertising is here to stay! Coca-Cola
A Columbia University study says the average adult eats 92% of what’s on their plate. Coca-Cola is now selling 8-ounce glass bottles that are the perfect portion control option with just 100 calories. Just recently, the soft drink company bought the energy drink company Monster Beverage. Coca-Cola also has other beverages in its portfolio, including Powerade and Minute Maid. The company’s success goes well beyond their signature soft drink and they continue to innovate their brand while adding other products. According to Advertising Age, Coca-Cola introduced Coca-Cola Life, a reduced-calorie cola the week of Aug. 25 to a few U.S. markets, but will make it available nationwide by October 2014. Sephora There’s a brand new Sephora store in town! Located on East 60th street and Lexington Avenue in New York City, the French cosmetics store includes the newest digital technology that helps women find the perfect foundation match. The store also helps customers find a new skin routine and has a variety of fragrances. The 7,000 square-foot location was originally a Levi’s store, but was converted to a brand new Sephora at the end of 2013. The new store opened during the summer and occupies one of the many large retail spaces in the city. Once Once is the eight-time Tony Award winner that has captivated audiences through its love story and it’s delightful soundtrack. This is the must-see Broadway show of the year! The show is based on the 2007 film that starred musicians Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. In the award-winning musical, Hansard plays a busker named Guy who meets Girl (played by Irglova) in a busy shopping district in Dublin. The pair get to know each other and eventually fall in love as they continue to write and rehearse songs together. The Broadway musical opened in 2011, received rave reviews from critics and has won numerous awards from The Outer Critics’ Circle, Drama League, The New York Drama Critics’ Circle and the Tony Awards. Blue Man Group Blue Man Group is the electrifying show that continues to captivate audiences since it opened at the Astor Place Theatre in 1991. According to their website, the Blue Man Group combines music, technology, and comedy to create a form of entertainment that defies categorization and appeals to people of all ages.” The show is also playing in other cities and in the Norwegian Epic Cruise Line. CEO Christy Ferer and the Vidicom team agree that this is a show featuring non-stop fun for the whole family! Empire Steakhouse After a Broadway show, grab a cosmopolitan at the Hilton Garden Inn’s Empire Steakhouse, which includes open-air seating and plenty of great food and drinks. Opened by the Sinanaj brothers, the restaurant is a place to eat a well-deserved steak and sip a martini in a modern dining room with high ceilings. The Empire Steakhouse offers customers the ultimate dining experience in the heart of NYC. This is a unique restaurant that promises high-end customer service and attention to detail as well as a space where customers will feel worlds away from standard steakhouses that are usually smaller and don’t provide quality service.
